Area Concerns

History

In the early 1950s Aurora and Twinsburg were not yet cities, but townships. Roughly 60 homes were in our original area at the end of a dirt road named Orchard Street whose only outlet was on Rt. 43 in Portage County, Aurora Township. By 1955 some fifty families had permanent homes in this isolated area and they were very concerned about being so far from Twinsburg Fire services. They formed their own Volunteer Fire Department, then called Twinsburg Volunteer Fire Station No. 2. It was not long after that the Ladies Auxiliary was formed. The first used fire truck was donated to us and the Ladies Auxiliary begged, borrowed and raised money for the much needed safety equipment and supplies. They had paper drives, scrap sales, dances, rummage sales, pancake breakfasts, and much more. These events quickly made the Fire Station a center of all social activity. In 1955 Reminderville was formally created. George, Frank and Clem Reminders families were some of the most respected and active in the area and the name Reminderville was selected. In 1957, the county acknowledged Reminderville should have its only road extended through wilderness to Liberty Road in Twinsburg. Once that happened many evolutions started. Developers saw rare opportunities around Aurora Lake and all the then undeveloped land in the area. In 1975 Aurora Shores was opened as one of the largest lake communities in Ohio. The Glenwood Point Apartments were started. Then The Crossings At Pond Brook was built. Around this time Reminderville negotiated a large land annexation agreement with Twinsburg, Twinsburg Township and Summit County MetroParks. This gave Reminderville frontage onto Liberty Road and more developable land. Part of the annexation agreement included developer agreements for what is today known as Willowbrook and the land on the southeast corner of Liberty and Glenwood. A lot has changed in our first 50 years, but as our village logo clearly states, Reminderville continues to be A Great Place To Call Home.
